“How I Won ₦30 Million Against Google” — Actress Adunni Ade Speaks on Melaye Dating Case
Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has announced that she won a lawsuit against Google after defamatory online publications falsely linked her romantically to former Kogi Senator Dino Melaye.
The actress shared the news on her Instagram page, posting a copy of the court judgment alongside the caption: "Adunni Ade Vs Google. Not every war requires a response. Some require a courtroom. Unto the next."
According to the court document, Justice I.O. Harrison of the Lagos High Court delivered the judgment on July 9, 2025, awarding Adunni Ade ₦30 million in general damages. The court also granted an injunction directing Google to remove the defamatory publications from its platforms, including Google Search and YouTube.
Adunni Ade had filed the suit against Google and Meta on July 11, 2024, seeking ₦100 million in general damages for the alleged defamatory content.
The case centered on two articles that continued to appear on Google's platforms. The headlines read: "How Dino Melaye used fake Patek Watch to woo and knack Actress Adunni Ade back, front and center" and "Actress Adunni Ade engages in heated exchange with famous Instagram blog after being listed among six celebrities to have dated Dino Melaye."
The actress argued that the publications were false, misleading, and defamatory. She maintained that they violated her constitutional right to privacy under Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution and caused her significant emotional and psychological distress.
In April 2025, Adunni Ade withdrew the case against Meta after the company filed a preliminary objection. The court subsequently struck out the suit against Meta, while the case against Google proceeded to judgment in her favor.
