These pictures were taken about 16 years ago at the TV transmission station of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC). There is a funny story behind them. The gentleman in that picture really had no business being at the TV house that morning, a few minutes to 11 a.m. But at least once or twice a week, I would saunter in there, sweating profusely and take a short break before crossing over to the radio studios to present my programme.
The only reason I used to go there was that it was the only room I knew where the air conditioners were working.
I used to trek from the Ikpa Road axis to present programmes at Ntak Inyang. And one thing I didn’t want anyone to know was that I trekked. I have always refused to be pitied. So first, I would dress in a way that suggested I had just stepped out of an SUV.
Ikpa Road to Ntak Inyang is roughly 5 to 8 km, whether you go through CCC Junction or Urua Ekpa. The Urua Ekpa road used to be in terrible shape, so going left after the CCC junction hill was the better option.
All that price was for name recognition and media/broadcasting experience. We did those programmes for free, the only reward was the exposure and recognition.
Do what you have to do, dear friend. Leave excuses. If you do nothing, you will become nothing.
